09/15/2005 Archived Entry: "Poetry Slam and Hutter"

First, some stuff from yesterday (Tuesday 9/13). Went to the Ecclectic Truth poetry reading last night, run by the Poetry Alliance (Xero, Mona, Donney, etc.). Turns out I was there on Slam Night, so they had a bona fide poetry slam with judges and everything. A few of the poets were displaced New Orleanians, including one (whose name escapes me, dammit!) who was actually from Ardmore. An excellent poetry slam. The Alliance has done a good job of growing a diverse and open reading. Xero pointed out something I had sort of forgotten - which was that a few years ago I wrote a poem about the levee breaking. He called me a modern Nostrodamus, although in truth I wrote the poem because I had just heard Led Zepplin's "When the Levee Breaks".

On to today...Got a visit from Jason Hutter, formerly of Chalmette. He's been in Atlanta for the last year, but still had a house in "the Parish". Ironically, he was scheduled to sell it on the 1st of September. It is, of course, destroyed now. Here's hoping you get some FEMA money, J.
